Biography
Law Practice
Matthew has experience advising both private and public companies on a wide range of Business Law matters. Matthew joined Mabbott & Company in the fall of 2012 and became one of the two partner/owner lawyers on January 1, 2016. Prior to joining Mabbott & Company, Matthew spent 5 years as an associate in the Vancouver office of a national firm where his practice focused on corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, securities law compliance and general corporate/commercial matters.

Background
Matthew was born and raised in Brandon, Manitoba. He received a Bachelor of Arts with Highest Distinction from Brandon University in 2002 and graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Victoria in 2006. After spending his articling year with a Vancouver-based employment and labour law firm, Matthew was admitted to the Law Society of British Columbia in 2007. He is also a member of the Canadian Bar Association.
Away from the office Matthew excelled as an ice hockey referee, officiating games in the Western Hockey League between 2003 and 2015 and the American Hockey League between 2011 and 2013. He refereed Memorial Cups in 2010 and 2011 and was selected to represent Canada as a referee at the 2013 World Hockey Championships and the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championships. More recently Matthew volunteers his time as a board member on a Cochrane-based children’s charity and enjoys time with his young family.
